22 March 2004. This outstanding award-winning project, Radiotherapy scheduling, demonstrated a high degree of buy-in and ownership from clinicians who also participated heavily in the design. This indefatigable team’s efforts made a significant impact on the service they provide:  the Trust has one of the lowest waiting times in the UK; patients are able to see at a glance the full extent of their treatment plan and have greater flexibility and choice in arranging appointments; and overall the system provides better quality of service to patients, doctors and healthcare staff!

Eight Healthcare IT Effectiveness Awards were presented in recognition of excellence in healthcare information management.

"Once again the excellence of the entries in this year’s Healthcare IT Effectiveness Awards demonstrates that there is a large amount of talent working to implement successful ICT in the NHS. The quality of entries was high and the range of projects encouraging. Patient care has been shown to be the major beneficiary of the work done by the winners.”
Dr Glyn Hayes, MB ChB, DRCOG, FBCS, President, UK Council for Health Informatics Professions; Chairman, Health Informatics Committee of the British Computer Society; and President, Primary Health Care Group of the BCS.

“Judges are looking for entries that show clear examples of how ICT meets the challenges of delivering effective patient care in the 21st century. We look forward to seeing more of the same next year.” Mike Fairey, Commissioning Editor, bjhc&im, and Chairman of the 2005 HITEA Judging Panel.
