An exceedingly good recipe for success
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust wins
First place for both the Best use of IT in the Health Service
and Best use of IT in any healthcare sector awards
This trust proves that the NHS is capable of
bringing about ICT-enabled change

Press release. Harrogate, 24 March 2003. The award-winning
project Implementation of PACS in the Calderdale Royal
Hospital, has the right ingredients to get even the doubting
Thomas's eating their words!
Eight finalists were put through their paces in November 2002
by the Awarding Consortium Judging Panel to prove how their ICT
system or process has improved the delivery of patient care.
"All the projects delivered a clear message for the national
programme. Technology is only an enabler. It is the attitude,
commitment and willingness to change of those using IT that will
deliver real improvements in efficiency and most importantly,
patient care. Frontline users must feel that they own the
programme if it is to be the success that the NHS, and the
country, need." Charles Ward, Chairman of the Awarding
Consortium Judging Panel; and Marketing Director, Intellect.
Today, eighty-three individuals received awards from
Professor Sir John Pattison, Director of Research, Analysis and
Information and Head of Genetics, Department of Health at the
award ceremony held at HC2003 in recognition of those delivering
excellence in healthcare IT.
"The quality of the entries in 2003 shows how much knowledge
and experience of successful ICT lies within the Health Service
and the supplier industries. This gives a valuable platform on
which new changes can be built and should be recognised by the
proposed strategic changes. We look forward to seeing more of
the same next year."Dr Glyn Hayes, MB, ChB, DRCOG, FBCS,
President, UK Council for Health Informatics Professions;
Chairman, Health Informatics Committee of the British Computer
Society; and President, Primary Health Care Group of the BCS.
